2022 IDRC International Doctoral Research Awards Recipients

We are thrilled to congratulate Marina Banuet for being awarded the 2022 IDRC International Doctoral Research Award. This prestigious award recognizes emerging leaders dedicated to applying research to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals and specific development outcome areas of particular interest to the International Development Research Centre (IDRC).

The IDRC Doctoral Research Awards program, which has been running for many years, is a merit-based, peer-reviewed scholarship program for doctoral students at Canadian universities to conduct field research in developing countries. Over three years, the program will provide 70 students from Canada and low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) with opportunities to participate actively in crafting innovative solutions to real-world problems and to build careers in relevant fields.

One of the unique aspects of this program is its focus on supporting field research in the Global South. By including students from LMICs studying in Canada, who will often return to their countries, this program deepens and strengthens collaboration between researchers and their organizations in Canada and the Global South on research that fosters development.

Marina Banuet's award is a testament to her commitment to advancing research in sustainable development. Her work will undoubtedly contribute to developing innovative solutions to real-world problems and promote sustainable development in LMICs.

We wish Marina Banuet and all the recipients of the IDRC Doctoral Research Awards program the best of luck in their research endeavours and look forward to the groundbreaking work they will produce.
